about

Basking in the warm sun and clearing the mind on a cool November day, at Richardson Beach in Kingston Ontario. A small mono sound system played quietly: this recording was made with a small recorder in front of the speaker, and it also catches the sounds of Lake Ontario and a large family clan who arrived and were quite chatty for awhile.

There are three quite differently styled 'sets' using Logic (1) and Max (2,3). The performances develop slowly with continuous change. There is a lot of internal detail to listen to and enjoy in a leisurely way.

1. Exploring the recent release of Cardinal, very nice virtual eurorack repackaging of VCV Rack as a plugin for DAWs.
2. Starting point: the sounds of two stones dropped into a tidal pool on Hornby Island BC.
3. A previously recorded improvisation on a frame drum (which you don't get to hear) drives this one. It takes us shuffling around in piles of field recordings and end up with a drum battle and a laptop crash. Thanks to Andreas Kahre and Dr Michael Veal for access into a couple of your kit solos which get revised here.
